1983 Ford Fairmont Futura, 6-Cyl. 2d Cpe

FAIRMONT FUTURA - FOUR/SIX - For its final season, Fairmont continued with little change. The lineup had been simplified into a single series for the 1982 model year. This time, the 4.2-liter V-8 was dropped completely, leaving only a base four and optional inline six. The 140 cu. (2.3-liter) switched from 1 Bbl. to 2Bbl. carburetion and added fast-burn technology and long-reach spark plugs, plus a redesigned exhaust manifold. Two-and four-door sedans were offered again, along with a two-door coupe. A low-budget'S’ series also was introduced. The Traction-Lok axle was now available with TR-type tires. New options included a 100-amp alternator (LPO option). Flight bench seating and a headlamp-on warning buzzer were added to the interior luxury group. Dual rear speakers were discontinued as an option. Radios got a new look and graphics. In short, not much change. For 1984, the rear-drive Fairmont, which had sold quite well during its six-year life and remained popular with fleet and taxi buyers, would be replaced by the new front-drive Tempo.
