1984 Oldsmobile Firenza, 4-Cyl. 4d Lx Sed

FIRENZA — SERIES 3J — FOUR — A new front-end look, intended to add more Olds “character,” introduced full-width air intake strips below the bumper. A new color-matched grille, urethane-molded, could deform in a minor impact, yet return to original shape. Wraparound side marker lenses now connected to the headlamp frames. Firenza was promoted to younger customers for its sporty, fun-to-drive qualities. Manual-shift models included an upshift indicator light, to help drivers attain maximum gas mileage. Wagons added an optional cargo area cover that stored behind the back seat. Six models were offered: S hatchback coupe, base four-door sedan, SX hatchback coupe, LX four-door sedan, Cruiser wagon and LX Cruiser wagon. SX and LX were identified by wide bumper fascia moldings. The S hatchback coupe could get a GT package (RPO code WJ4), and 2,312 were produced. A total of 1,125 ES packages (code W47) were installed on base sedans, 1,008 on LX sedans. Chevrolet's 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine was standard; optional was a 1.8-liter OHC four from GM of Brazil. Firenza ES offered “international” styling with blacked-out moldings and minimal brightwork. Black appliques went on the C-pillars, with black sport mirrors. Wide black bumper fascia moldings (front/rear) and black rocker panel moldings were used. Polycast wheels were standard. Three ES body colors were offered: silver, light royal blue, or light maple metallic. GT had the same updated front end as other Firenzas. This year, GT included not only the spectra red and silver paint scheme offered in 1983, but also a white and silver version. Polycast sport wheels and black accents were included. The GT's instrument panel was highlighted by red beading, which also accented the subtle checkered gray fabric seat inserts.
