1986 Chevrolet Nova 4d Sed
NOVA - SERIES 1S - FOUR - Produced in a joint venture between Chevrolet and Toyota, the five-passenger front-drive subcompact Nova went on sale in June 1985 in half the states. For the full 1986 model year, it was made available nationwide, and a four-door hatchback joined the original four-door notchback sedan. Riding a 95.7 inch wheelbase, Nova weighed about 200 pounds less than an equivalent Cavalier. Hatchbacks had split-folding rear seats, for carrying both passengers and cargo. Nova wore a black Crosshatch grille with three horizontal divider bars and seven vertical divider bars, with center bowtie emblem. Wrap around cornering lamps flanked quad rectangular headlamps. with parking lamps inset low in the bumper. The original 97 cu. in. (1.6-liter) four-cylinder engine rated 70 horsepower, while the full-year version added four more. New engine mounts were meant to reduce idle shake, and the optional air conditioner got a larger compressor. A five-speed manual (overdrive) transaxle was standard, with three-speed automatic available. Standard equipment included power brakes, rack-and-pin-ion steering, AM radio, black bumpers with silver stripe, side window defoggers, cloth door panels with map pockets, full console, and a locking fuel filler door. Also standard: tinted glass, temperature gauge, locking glove box, day/night mirror, black left mirror (remote-controlled), temporary spare tire, trip odometer, cloth/vinyl low-back reclining front bucket seats, and an audible warning system. Argent styled wheels held P155/80R13 SBR black-wall tires. Wiper/washers had a mist cycle. Bodies carried narrow black bodyside, roof drip and windshield moldings. Hatchbacks had a black rear spoiler. Nova's option list was unusually small: just a series of packages rather than individual items. Step-up CL option packages each included a set of extras, in addition to the items indicated in the option lists. Those extra features included a custom cloth interior, wide bodyside moldings, bright belt and roof drip moldings, black door frames and rocker panels, console with storage box, trunk carpet and light, tilt steering column, remote trunk and fuel filler door openers, right visor vanity mirror, soft steering wheel, driver's seat with vertical adjustment and lumbar support, and passenger assist grips.
